In terms of waterproofing, Ridgeline have gone for a “Belt and Braces” approach. The 2-layer outer is made up of a durable Nylon outer fabric laminated to a waterproof/breathable membrane offering a Hydrostatic Head of 10,000mm. The inner comprises a soft, comfortable polyester liner with a second waterproof membrane providing a Hydrostatic Head of 5,000mm.
Needless to say, that’s many, many times higher than any global standards for waterproof clothing fabrics. And, because any temporary condensation is locked away in the gap between the two layers, it’s also far more comfortable to wear in warmer conditions.
Offering the characteristic “New Zealand” cut, the Ridgeline Frontier Smock incorporates Ridgelines signature, extra-long scooped back for complete protection when you’re bending over or sitting on your quad bike.
The rugged, half-length front zip, protected by a wide, popper-fastened storm flap, combines with a side zip to make the smock easy to put on, remove or ventilate.
A full-protection hood offers a wired peak and three points of adjustment to ensure a close fit — it’s completely detachable for those rare days when you get a rain-free forecast.
A large external zipped chest pocket combines with a high-volume cargo pocket to provide plenty of storage options for everyday or working essentials.
Two zipped lower pockets add extra capacity and provide a convenient place to warm up your hands between jobs.
A fifth storage pocket — outside the main zip but inside the storm flap — offers a handy place to store your mobile phone or other accessories that need to be kept dry.
An adjustable waist fine-tunes the fit and seals in the warmth — the drawcord is easy to grab and use one handed and cinches just the back of the smock to keep a clean, snag-free finish at the front.
Velcro-adjustable cuffs with thick neoprene inner cuffs keep your wrists warm and help to prevent cold water dripping down your sleeve when you’re reaching above your head.
